MMS to SMS

If a destination phone number fails to receive a MMS message due to MMS related delivery receipt, the phone number is marked as an incompatible MMS receiving phone. All further MMS messages to that destination phone number will send without a image, effectively becoming a SMS and will be billed as an SMS.

Common Reasons why MMS fails to send

  • Incompatible Phone
    • VOIP Phone without MMS capability
    • Incompatible phone. (Older Phone / "Minimalist" Phones)
  • Incompatible Phone Plan
    • Phone plan doesn't include MMS
    • Phone plans without "data", even if Wifi is available.
  • Phone Settings
    • MMS settings on phone are misconfigured
    • MMS not enabled on phone settings

Generic Failure

If a destination phone number fails to receive a message two times, the message will be dropped and put into the rejected messages log.
